A HUMORUS AND LIVELY SPIRIT OF BRUSHWORK

An Exhibition of NEW PAINTINGS IN THE CONTEMPORARY CHINESE STYLE BY LL

LL¡¯s paintings use Chinese raw silk yuan calligraphy paper and other traditional materials. In a modern way and employing humorous techniques, she depicts her circle of friends and those she knows well at all levels of society. Painting their natural revelations about life. she also paints what in the world engenders the most enticing, attractive and lovely feelings. To view her work is like tasting a brimming cup of fragrantly delicious tea.

Her works have an aura of calm. The paintings offer a calm elegance and feeling of leisure. The themes have an air of the purity of ice-clear jade. It is just this that is her unique accomplishment. In her works there is the realization of a lofty purity that breathes elegance and character.

The vitality and liveliness of her painting originally flows from the richly childlike attractiveness of her personality. The personages depicted by her brush can virtually be touched, and we can clearly see that they come from her personal, individually vital life. The infinite variations in the temperaments of the personages she depicts are captured by her sharply intelligent brush. Comic and loveable, the quiet appeal of her easy-going humor leaps out from the paintings.

Her works are fully imbued with a humorous and lively spirit of brushwork. Unless you enter a state of mind beyond the ego, you won¡¯t get it ¡¡
